A great way to improve fleet management costs

Vehicle provider Go Plant wanted to increase its control over its fleet and cut its administration costs. To meet these objectives, it opted for Chevin’s FleetWave.

Go Plant Vehicle Fleet

Go Plant is a leading UK provider of operated, self-drive specialist and municipal vehicles.

The company operates in two business areas:

  • Go Plant Sweepers– operated road sweeping and gully emptying vehicles
  • GPL Hire– specialist vehicles on short term rental and contract hire

The substantial size of Go Plant’s fleet – from sweepers to gully-emptiers, and tippers to refuse vehicles – had resulted in a large administrative burden. Lengthy procedures had been implemented to manage the large and complex fleet, however this system needed to be simplified to improve service delivery levels.

The company also wanted to improve communication with drivers in the field and boost efficiency through better vehicle routing – as Paul Langham, Go Plant’s Managing Director, explained:

“We realised that all of our businesses would benefit from fully automated vehicle hire systems, including purchase order and sales invoicing, which could automatically produce management information and KPIs.

“Our vision was to network every one of our depots and contracts to head office, thereby providing a complete fleet management system.”

The desired system would include a requirement for PDA systems for Go Plant’s drivers, which was intended to improve communications and routing and help generate customer invoices more quickly. The browser-based software system would need to be used by a number of users and was intended to automate existing procedures and reduce the administrative load.

After carrying out a thorough review of all the software systems available, Go Plant chose FleetWave from Chevin Fleet Solutions due to its flexibility, versatility and portability.

FleetWave met numerous key requirements, including the ability to manage Go Plant’s fleet data and streamline the following processes:

  • Vehicle maintenance
  • Ordering
  • Invoicing
  • Hire
  • Workshop
  • Parts

With the ability to streamline these business operations, increase efficiencies enterprise-wide and manage large, complex fleet operations, FleetWave was the optimum solution to meet Go Plant’s exact specifications. It also offered the added benefit of remote access via PDA.

This sophisticated new fleet management system would help sustain strong performance and improve service delivery levels to the company’s varied customers.

Paul said:

“FleetWave is a multi-faceted solution, which has revolutionised many different aspects of the Go Plant business. All hires, purchase orders, invoices and job cards go through the system and it gives us vital business intelligence at our fingertips, with one-click availability of essential management reports and information.

“Reports which used to take hours to produce can now be done in seconds. From a cost control perspective, the system puts a limit on purchases made by employees based upon their access level, thereby eliminating excessive or unauthorised expenditure.

FleetWave is very user – friendly, gives us full visibility of the whole fleet operation and will assist us as we continue to set the service standard for our customers now and in the future.”
