Over half of Chevin’s fleet has gone green!
Successful switch to electric and hybrid vehicles
We committed to ensuring at least 5% of our fleet are electric by 2020 Well, we have done much better than this and are pleased to announce that over half of our vehicles now match the green fleet credentials.
The first electric vehicle joining the fleet ‘trial’ was Managing Director Ashley Sowerby’s Tesla Model S. A supporter of low-emission vehicles, he was impressed with the distance that it could travel on a single charge and overall performance. The success of this vehicle paved the way for diesel fleet vehicles to be phased out and replaced by electric and hybrid counterparts.
Alongside the Tesla are a Mercedes-Benz PHEV, Volkswagen Golf PHEV and a Hyundai PHEV in the Chevin fleet vehicle family.
The vehicles can be charged on-site with ‘green’ electricity generated through solar panels mounted on the roof of our head office. Two charge points have been installed on-site but plans are in place to increase these as other diesel vehicles within our fleet are phased out.
Ashley Sowerby, managing director, Chevin, comments,
“We found that since switching part of our fleet to electric and hybrid vehicles, our running costs are now much lower as we do our bit for the planet through reduced carbon emissions.”
“Solar panels in effect provide ‘green’ fuel for the vehicles. Planning journeys to include charge points hasn’t really been an issue as they tend to cover daily drive requirements comfortably on a single charge.”
