Chevin calls on fleet operators to look beyond implementation

Fleet management software provider Chevin Fleet Solutions is encouraging fleet operators to look beyond implementation timelines and upfront costs when evaluating technology investments, arguing that continuous operational control and long-term operational value should play a greater role in purchasing decisions.

As a provider of fleet management software for public and private sector fleets, Chevin helps companies manage compliance, maintenance, reporting and operational performance through its FleetWave platform.

The company says fleet teams are under growing pressure to maintain visibility, improve efficiency and keep vehicles on the road as compliance requirements, reporting demands and operational complexity continue to increase.

At the same time, software selection processes often focus heavily on implementation speed, user experience and initial costs, with less attention given to how a platform will support operations over the years that follow.

According to Chevin, this can create a disconnect between company priorities during procurement and the factors that ultimately determine long-term success.

“Implementation is important, but it is only the beginning of the journey,” says Gary Thompson, CEO at Chevin Fleet Solutions.

“When corporations and public bodies invest in fleet management software, the real question is not simply how quickly a system can be deployed. It’s whether that platform will continue to help fleet teams maintain control of their operations five or ten years later as compliance obligations increase, reporting requirements evolve and operational demands become more complex.”

Many fleet operators are now managing increasingly complex environments, often spanning multiple locations, departments and vehicle types. At the same time, operators are being asked to improve operational performance while navigating tighter budgets, changing regulations and increasing scrutiny around compliance and governance.

Against this backdrop, Chevin believes fleet management technology should be viewed as a long-term operational asset rather than a one-time implementation project.

“The most effective fleet platforms are those that help organisations maintain continuous operational control,” says Richard Clark, Global Head of Product at Chevin.

“Technology should enable fleet teams to adapt, report, improve processes and respond to change without creating additional complexity or dependence on external support. The greatest value is often delivered long after implementation through better visibility, stronger compliance, improved decision-making and more efficient day-to-day operations.”

The company is also encouraging fleet operators to consider the longer-term impact of fragmented systems, disconnected processes and software solutions that may meet immediate requirements but struggle to support future operational needs.

According to Chevin, factors such as scalability, configurability, reporting capability and the ability to support continuous improvement should be given equal consideration alongside functionality and ease of deployment.

For larger and more complex fleets, says Chevin, these considerations can have a significant impact on operational performance, helping teams reduce administrative burden, improve maintenance planning, strengthen compliance management and maintain vehicle availability.

“Fleet operations never stand still,” adds Richard. “Whether organisations are responding to new legislation, company growth or changing service demands, they need technology that evolves alongside them. The focus should not be solely on what software delivers on day one, but on the operational value it continues to create year after year.”

To this end, Gary and Richard see the ultimate goal as continuous operational control, thereby giving fleet teams the visibility, flexibility and confidence to manage change, improve performance and maximise the long-term value of their technology investment.

This thinking, Gary explains, underpins Chevin’s , which encourages fleet operators to evaluate technology not simply by how quickly it can be implemented, but also by the operational value it continues to deliver throughout its lifetime.

“Taking a longer-term approach to technology evaluation can help fleet operators make more informed purchasing decisions, reduce operational risk and maximise return on investment throughout the lifetime of a fleet management platform.”
