The European Union has taken a monumental step in protecting the fundamental right to privacy for every EU resident with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which will be effective from May 25, 2018. This will impact every organisation which processes or holds personal data.
EU residents will now have greater say over what, how, why, where, and when their personal data is used, processed, or disposed. GDPR will introduce new responsibilities, stringent compliance and increased penalties than the current Data Protection Act (DPA).
Chevin’s commitment to Data Protection
Chevin has always put information security at the forefront of processes and procedures. This position is demonstrated by meeting the information security industry standard for ISO 27001. We already have strong Data Protection Agreements, these will be revised to meet the requirements of the GDPR.
- Data is processed fairly and lawfully
- Data is processed only for specified and lawful purposes
- Processed data is adequate, relevant and not excessive
- Processed data is accurate and, where necessary, kept up to date
- Data is not kept longer than necessary
- Data is processed in accordance with an individual’s consent and rights
- Data is kept secure
Although we have already implemented a consistent level of data protection and security in our business, our aim is to be fully GDPR compliant by 25 May 2018. This includes keeping internal records of all our data processing activities and having a process to accommodate the rights of our data subjects.
Any GDPR related questions can be addressed to Chevin’s Data Protection Officer at firstname.lastname@example.org.
