Chevin reaches new heights in the Lake District!

Last weekend some of our Chevin team took a trip to the Lake District to hike to the summit of Helvellyn!

On Friday afternoon we set off from our UK HQ in our fleet of EV’s and headed up north, stopping at a service station to recharge and play a game of table football whilst we waited.

We reached Windermere in the evening and headed out for a group dinner in town, before driving to our accommodation at the youth hostel YHA Helvellyn.

After an early breakfast our team set off at 9am, we hiked for around an hour before reaching Red Tarn Lake, where we stopped to rest and regroup. It was a very cold and misty start, so we had a stone skimming competition to keep warm.

From the tarn the next challenge was reaching the summit via Swirral Edge, it wasn’t for the faint-hearted, but rewarded us with some spectacular views

This climb up included some segments of scrambling, and a few members of our team aren’t great with heights, but with lots of moral support and teamwork we all reached the summit at 950m!

The summit was the perfect place to stop and eat our lunch and we also celebrated our recent ‘Best Fleet Management Software’ award win – it feels good at the top!

We then began the decent back down across Striding Edge, the famous ridge that flanks the south eastern passage to Helvellyn.

However some members of the group decided that one peak wasn’t enough, and headed up to another called ‘Catsye Cam’, which had an incredible view!

In total the 14km route took the group around 7 hours. We stopped at the stream towards the bottom of the mountain for a refreshing dip, before the final stretch back to the hostel for a well earned beer!

That evening we took on another mile walk into the village of Glenridding and went to a local pub for dinner, and finished off the trip with some stargazing on the walk back.

The Lakes was a perfect place for an activity like this, kind of like a grown-up school trip. The team building element really worked as I came back with some new and some strengthened friendships, that will translate to stronger and more productive relationships in the virtual and real life office. Great weekend from start to finish, and an excellent bunch of people to spend it with, good memories made!
