With events returning this year we can say one thing that we truly have not missed is hauling piles of brochures through conference halls, and realistically don’t they all end up being discarded at the end of the day? That’s why we have decided to go, like all things, digital with our brochures!

As part of our ongoing CSR campaign we are always looking for innovative ways to reduce our carbon footprint and do our bit for the planet. Paper is manufactured from tree fibers and is a significant driver of deforestation, 70% of the world’s plants and animals live in forests and are deprived of their natural habitats due to deforestation. By going digital with our brochures we will be saving on average 4,800 sheets of paper per year, that’s half a tree!

There are a myriad of benefits that come from swapping from print to digital brochures:

Saves Natural Resources

The production of paper of any kind involves the exploitation of natural resources, for example:

  • 40% of the world’s commercially cut timber is used for the production of paper.
  • A4 paper requires 10 litres of water per sheet in production
  • The paper industry is the 5th largest consumer of energy in the world, using up 4% of the world’s energy.
  • To produce 1 ton of virgin paper, it is estimated that 253 gallons of petrol is used.
  • Over 30 million acres of forest are destroyed annually.

Prevents Paper Pollution

In the past four decades, the use of paper has risen by 400%. Roughly, 26% of solid waste dumped in dumping sites is discarded paper and paperboard. Pulp and paper mills also contribute to water, land and air pollution. It has also been identified that de-inking of papers during recycling is a source of chemical emissions.

Reduces Greenhouse Gas Emissions

About 69% of the global greenhouse gas emissions are from the transportation and energy industries. Out of this, the paper and print industry accounts for 1% of the carbon dioxide produced. When paper is disposed of in dumping sites, it is subsequently broken down, and methane is produced, which is a potent greenhouse gas. The paper industry also uses fossil fuels for raw material production and transportation, emitting more Greenhouse gases.

The life cycle of paper is also damaging, it starts with a tree being cut down and ends with it being burned, which emits carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

Creative Opportunities

There’s a reason why the brochure continues to endure in the age of digital marketing. Digital brochures have many key benefits that businesses can take advantage of to maximize leads, conversions and brand awareness. For example:

  • They can be shared across all digital channels such as websites, email and social media etc.
  • They captivate customers with visually-engaging, interactive content.
  • Digital brochures can generate leads by adding call to action buttons

The digital world allows for an enhanced user experience with imaginative and innovative designs. For example, digital brochures allow for features such as interactive polls, charts, embedded videos, enlargeable pictures and clickable, shareable links.

As well as this, printed brochures are only up to date on the day that they are printed, meaning that many are discarded before use, whereas digital brochures can be updated in real-time to help your sales team sell better and stay informed.

On the whole we can all agree that reducing our use of the world’s natural resources is the environmentally conscious thing to do, whilst also innovating new ways to both create a more sustainable future and new and exciting marketing concepts in this digital age. In our opinion, all companies should be looking to make the swap!
