We share our top tips to\u00a0help you reduce fleet fuel costs\u00a0through improved\u00a0processes.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>1. Know your fleet<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>It\u2019s important to\u00a0have a full all-round working knowledge of\u00a0your entire fleet\u00a0including\u00a0vehicles,\u00a0drivers, customers, processes, systems, spend and\u00a0regulations.\u00a0Having this &#8216;bigger picture&#8217; approach\u00a0is ideal\u00a0when understanding\u00a0the reasons for\u00a0current\u00a0fuel\u00a0spend.<\/p>\n<p>From this, ask your self questions such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Is fuel purchased wholesale or at the pump?<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chevinfleet.com\/en-us\/learning-zone\/top-things-think-selecting-fleet-vehicles\/\">What kind of vehicles are best for your operations?<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Where and how are your fleet vehicles driven?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As the demands on a\u00a0fleet\u00a0are unique\u00a0to your business,\u00a0the opportunity to save fuel costs is\u00a0knowing what you do now and how\u00a0these practices and procedures can be made even better.<\/p>\n<h3><b>2.\u00a0Monitor fleet driver behavior<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chevinfleet.com\/en-us\/learning-zone\/become-a-good-driver-prevent-accidents-and-save-your-business-money\/\">Driver behaviors such as speeding<\/a>, irregular gear changes and hard braking can\u00a0have a negative impact on vehicle fuel consumption.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chevinfleet.com\/en-us\/learning-zone\/fuel-saving-tips-infographic\/\">Reducing speed is an easy way\u00a0to reduce fuel costs in your fleet<\/a>.\u00a0As an example\u00a0to the difference it makes, take a fleet of around\u00a0150 vehicles &#8211; savings of\u00a0around\u00a0$64,000 per year can be made simply by reducing the average\u00a0MPG from 30 to 33!<\/p>\n<p>Speaking from experience, we found through our own fleet data that\u00a0fuel economy increases by an average of 3 MPG after successfully\u00a0running driver speed awareness\u00a0programs!<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s safe to say,\u00a0many drivers simply don\u2019t realize how much fuel costs\u00a0a fleet and the\u00a0impact that their driving can have on this.\u00a0Without good driver buy-in, you\u2019ll be hard pushed to achieve any real changes.
