Flexible fleet software from Chevin fully VOSA compliant

Chevin Fleet Solutions' enterprise fleet management software has been formally recognised by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) as fully compliant with the conditions set out in the Guide to Maintaining Road Worthiness.

The Guide describes a system for maintaining vehicles in a roadworthy condition regardless of operating conditions, fleet size or vehicle type. It is particularly applicable to operator licence holders, as it incorporates the procedures necessary to satisfy the requirements of Traffic Commissioners. Chevin have extended their web-based fleet management software, FleetWave®, to enable vehicle drivers to access their organisations’ fleet management system in 'real time', using Smart-phones or PDAs running Microsoft's Internet Explorer. This development now supports the ability for a driver to carry out their Daily Driver Inspection check using the PDA, with real-time visibility for the Fleet Manager showing which vehicles have, or more importantly, have not, been inspected. The need to record Daily Driver Inspections, even when no defects are found (commonly known as nil-defect reporting), is seen as best-practice by VOSA. Where defects are found, these are immediately fed back to the transport manager for rectification and a DO NOT DRIVE message can be given to the driver. The message will then persist until the defect has been reviewed by a responsible person. This combination of real-time data capture and feedback also ensures that the organisation’s risk profile is greatly reduced. Drivers can use the same approach to capture and maintain mileage records, expense claims and other relevant information. Ashley Sowerby, Managing Director of Chevin Fleet Solutions, explains: "Leveraging FleetWave's uniquely flexible architecture, drivers can utilise their PDA or Smartphone to perform vehicle circle inspections, notifying supervisors or shop personnel of any safety related defects - whilst maintaining and displaying inspection histories should the need arise. With this flexible technology, drivers can capture and report comprehensive accident and incident details promptly, allowing them to more accurately document all pertinent information to ensure correct and timely reporting." With FleetWave® from Chevin, flexibility comes as standard.
