RoadBASE Frequently Asked Questions

None of my reports respond

Usually happens when the computer in use has no printer drivers installed.
SOLUTION: Install a printer driver

Blank page when using Print icon

Printer resolution too great
SOLUTION: Try reducing the printer resolution

How can I improve my reports
  • Turn off page count support (only enable for reports where you must have a page 1 of n counter)
  • When selecting data tables ensure you also open the associated index file, otherwise the report engine needs to create one each time the report is generated
  • When defining child tables, enssure that the relationship shows the correct index and tag, and select the relevant relationship (most are one to one, even though the report engine defaults to one to many
  • For long filters, place the expressions that will reject most data, first

Additional Reporting Functions

To extend the features of the report writer and make it more RoadBASE® aware you can install the RoadBASE® Reporting Library. To activate this library, you will require a copy of file RBREPORT.DLL

Save this file in your RoadBASE® directory, and add/update the following lines in your RPWIN.ini (also located in your RoadBASE® directory, create using Notepad if absent):

[FunctionLibs]
LIB1=RBREPORT.dll

Data loss and frequent index corruption

When a program uses the GetFileSize() API to get the size of an existing file on a Microsoft networking server (such as a Windows NT-based server), the Client for Microsoft Networks may not return the correct file size. When the program then attempts to write additional information to the end of the file, it may overwrite existing data instead.

This problem has been observed only with the version of the Client for Microsoft Networks (Vredir.vxd) included with OSR2 (version 4.00.1111) and later.

SOLUTION:
This fault is published on the microsoft website (perform a search for Q174371).

Download the patch utility (VRDRUPD.exe) and apply this to EVERY Windows 95 and 98 PC that will use the application.

Compatibility with Windows 7

Some users of RoadBASE®, who use Microsoft Windows 7 as their operating system, may experience difficulties accessing particular the Help section of the software. This is a straightforward compatibility issue and can be easily overcome by following the below steps:

  • Click on this link to download and install the Windows Help Programme application
  • Check you are installing the correct version (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • Once the update has installed successfully, double check you have the help page set up correctly in RoadBASE®. You can do this by:
    • Ensuring you have a file called rbwhelp.hlp in your RoadBASE® directory
    • If an ini code of USERGUIDE doesn’t already exist create one with the description of RBWHELP.HLP
  • Shutdown and re-launch RoadBASE
