The National Ambulance Service (NAS) has a fleet in excess of 450 vehicles based at over 90 sites across the Republic of Ireland. The fleet is comprised of more than 250 accident & emergency ambulances, over 100 patient care service vehicles with the remainder being made up of rapid response vehicles, officer response cars, 4x4 vehicles, in-house maintenance vehicles, emergency equipment and mobile control vehicles. All these vehicles are owned by the HSE.
The primary objective was to source a Fleet Management System suitable for use by the HSE to support the National Ambulance Service in the management of its fleet for the next 5 ? 10 years. The detailed objectives of this system are to:
The system was expected to provide the following benefits: - Compliance with emerging technologies - Support for efficient management of NAS Fleet - Improved quality and timeliness of information - Provision of comprehensive quality control features - Ready access to information for audit and research purposes - Support a streamlining of routine administration and clerical tasks - Reduction of manual record keeping - Reduced likelihood of clerical error, inaccuracies and inconsistencies - Auditablility and traceability - Support effective use of resources - Provision of flexible information, statistical analysis, costing and reporting for management purposes both within and outside the directorate - Improved monitoring and reporting of fleet information and activity - Improved efficiency of communication, - of fleet related matters - with other enterprise systems - with external providers (e.g. vehicle suppliers ) - Improved security of information - Facilitation of relevant staff training and education - Support of research initiatives as appropriate - Support compliance with statutory and legal requirements
