Saint-Gobain established its first major base in the UK in 1985, when it acquired Stanton plc from British Steel. Today, they have over 40 subsidiary businesses in the UK & Ireland, involved in a range of manufacturing and distribution activities. Together, these companies employ around 18,500 people and have total annual sales of over £2.5 billion.
Client Brief
SGBD were looking to manage cars, trucks, MHE across all SGBD business units, as well as procurement for SGBD cars.
- To interface with other business information systems such as PeopleSoft.
- To operate in an e-Commerce environment (not just communicate with it), eg. web-based capability.
- To have multi-currency and multi-language capability.
- To have power-cube reporting capabilities giving summary management information that can be drilled-down to lower levels.
- To have the ability to link into telematic systems and smart chips (tyre wear, odometer readings, service schedules, etc.)
- To have a large capability to handle personnel data including training, usage profiles, authority to operate, risk assessment, etc.
Client Benefits
SGBD achieved approximately a £12,000 per month cost saving following the introduction of a Driver Business Mileage reclaim system. Every month, approximately 3,000 drivers use this system on-line, greatly reducing the administrative burden and saving indirect costs such as postage, stationery, fax/phone and approval.
