Introduction

Go Plant is a leading UK provider of operated, self-drive specialist and municipal vehicles and plant hire to the public and private sectors. Go Plant provides services to its customers in the following three trading divisions: Go Plant Sweepers - the UK market leader in operated road sweeping and gully emptying. GPL Hire - a market leader in providing specialist vehicles to the public and private sector on short term rental and contract hire. Plant, Telehandlers and Site Accommodation - a division offering the hire of Telehandlers and Site Accommodation to the housing and industrial sectors. With substantial investment in its fleet over the years, Go Plant has maintained a position at the forefront of its field.

Client Brief

To help sustain this strong performance and improve service delivery levels to its customers, Go Plant also decided to invest in a sophisticated new fleet management system. Go Plant’s requirement was for a multi-user, browser-based software system that could automate existing procedures and reduce the administrative burden that was needed to manage a substantial fleet, including sweepers, gully-emptiers, tippers and refuse vehicles. Patrick Tierney, Go Plant’s Managing Director, said: "From the outset of the project we realised that all of our businesses would benefit from fully automated vehicle hire systems, including purchase order and sales invoicing, which could automatically produce management information and KPIs. Our vision was to network every one of our depots and contracts to head office, thereby providing a complete Fleet Management System. The final stage of the implementation will include a requirement for PDA systems for our drivers, which will improve our communications and routing with them, as well as generating customer invoices more quickly.
