Chevin Fleet Solutions is pleased to announce the launch of its new mobile PDA module, workshop touch-screen functionality and route verification and mapping solutions on Thursday 7th June at The Hilton East Midlands Airport. PDA Functionality Chevin has extended its browser-based fleet management software, FleetWave®, to enable vehicle drivers to access their organisations' fleet management system in 'real time', using smart-phones or PDAs running Microsoft's Internet Explorer. This development now supports the ability for a driver to carry out their Daily Driver Inspection check using the PDA, with real-time visibility for the Fleet Manager showing which vehicles have, or more importantly, have not, been inspected. Where defects are found, these are immediately fed back to the transport manager for rectification and a DO NOT DRIVE message can be given to the driver. The message will then persist until the defect has been reviewed by a responsible person. This combination of real-time data capture and feedback ensures that the organisation’s risk profile is greatly reduced. Workshop Floor System Chevin Fleet Solutions has further upgraded its FleetWave® software with the introduction of a new workshop floor system (WFS). This new module solves the long-standing problem of how to capture accurate information within the workshop environment. The process is now very streamlined, with workshop technicians logging into the WFS using a simple 4-digit PIN identifier (or bar-coded badge), depending on their role, they are then shown a list of jobs active within the workshop that have been assigned to them, and they simply log-on/log-off each job task as they work through the job. Any jobs that cannot be immediately completed (e.g. the technician is awaiting parts) are flagged accordingly and the technician moves onto their next task. The workshop foreman then has clear visibility of workload, activity and capacity at all times. In addition, when used in conjunction with standard times it is very easy to structure and operate efficiency based bonus schemes for workshop staff. Route Verification & Mapping Solution Another major development from Chevin is the introduction of a new route verification and mapping module. This added functionality enables the user to verify routes, maps and mileages of journeys via the FleetWave® software for greater accuracy in reporting, potentially generating huge cost savings for the organisation. For example, if a driver typically 'rounds-up' or overstates their business mileage claims by as little as 10 miles per day, once this figure is multiplied into an annual figure and across the fleet, a fleet of 100 vehicles would be looking at an excess mileage claim of over a quarter of a million miles. When you consider that the typical whole life mileage cost of a typical fleet car is 40p, the potential saving would be over GBP100,000, significantly more than the cost of any investment that may be needed, and significantly less than a black-box approach.
