Chevins RoadBASE® increases service levels at North Yorkshire Commercials

Thirsk-based North Yorkshire Commercials (NYC) has installed Chevin Fleet Solutions' RoadBASE software to help give even better service to its growing customer base.

The company is using the new computer system to manage vehicle maintenance, workshop control and invoicing of workshop jobs and over-the-counter sales. Financial information from RoadBASE® is interfaced into the Pegasus OPERA accounts package.

"We used to manually type invoices and then input the details onto the parent company's system," said General Manager Jonathan Corcoran.

"But having a system like RoadBASE® manage everything has made this side of our work an awful lot easier. The software is very flexible and helps us run the reports we need. As we look after over 250 commercial vehicles on behalf of customers, it can generate a lot of paperwork."

NYC is a MAN ERF agent and the maintenance arm of Sullivan Poultry Group (in turn a subsidiary of UK agri-business, ABNA, Associated British Nutrition and Agriproducts). The decision to switch to Chevin Fleet Solutions' RoadBASE® was not made lightly. In fact it took three-years, and an extensive assessment programme before the company made up its mind. "We did a number of comparisons with other systems, but settled on RoadBASE® because we liked the fact that we would also be able to use it as a total garage package," added Mr. Corcoran.

"It now looks after all the job card processing, stock control and database management, as well as all our workshop efficiencies. Plus we have a link which goes into our parent company's system – and we’ve got the facility for fleet management, as we run 25 of our own vehicles.

"I'd say it's a low cost, but very effective total solution. That's been the reality for us, and the support has been really good."
